What Do We Do?

There are three main strands to our work:
Theatre
Creating and touring theatre and street theatre productions throughout the UK and Europe
Education
Promoting theatre for education and regeneration
Outreach
Developing community involvement in the arts

Since its creation, Talia has produced a new piece of theatre every year, which have toured nationally and three pieces of street theatre, which have toured internationally. We are one of the few companies in Europe to specialise in Meyerhold’s Biomechanics, a system of movement training for actors. Our latest theatre production is The Life of Molière.

Many of our educational and participatory programmes, both for young people and adults, focus on emotional literacy and social inclusion. Two current projects which highlight this area of our work are Rehearsal For Life, an innovative new programme for 11 to 16 year olds, and The LAB Project, a ground-breaking scheme for adults who may have given up on other more traditional forms of training. The projects developed aim to help tackle social problems in the region and have been recognised nationally and incorporated within many North West based government initiatives.
Over the last six years, we have also developed six pieces of educational theatre, co-ordinated several youth theatres in the region and designed specific workshops for young people.

For the last 3 years we have been working in close collaboration with Huddersfield based Proper Job Theatre. Both Proper Job and Talia share common aims and ideas and the two companies have been collaborating on a number of different projects including Rehearsal for Life, Training the Trainer, One Step Beyond and The LAB Project.

Talia Theatre and Proper Job and produced a piece of Theatre In Education based on Aldous Huxley’s ‘Brave New World’.  The piece is aimed at years 10 and 11 and raises may issues around citizenship on the PSHE curriculum.  The performance is accompanied by workshops to explore these issues further and a resource pack so that teachers can continue the work in their lessons if they so wish.

We see our collaboration with Proper Job increasing and growing into a long lasting and formal partnership between the two companies.
