Asian Poetry

(Previous Project)

The Asian Poetry course was a partnership with Audley Community Centre in Blackburn and was specifically for Asian women.

We focused on poetry in three different languages; Urdu, Gujurati and English. The course was delivered by different poets, focusing on expressive techniques and language construction and allowed for free expression within a ‘safe’ environment.

This was a collaboration with Unlimited Theatre. We worked with 6 women from socially disaffected backgrounds towards a piece of theatre based on their own stories. We specifically wanted to bring together women from both the Asian and White communities. The course looked at teamwork and confidence building and led to the creation of a performance piece, which explored elements of the participants’ different cultures.

Theatre in Education
